Over 80% of coffins currently used are made from chipboard; the production of chipboard requires significant volumes of formaldehyde, a carcinogenic pollutant, and chipboard coffins release toxins when cremated or buried.
Cardboard Coffinsare made from recycled cardboard in the UK, so unlike many coffins which are imported, we are not stamping a large carbon footprint. They cremate with 90% lower carbon emissions than a standard chipboard coffin, and for burial they are 100% biodegradable. In addition, due to the multi-layered construction technique of the coffins they are extremely strong, easily carrying up to 20 stone.
